Fruit Chaat
Fruit Chaat is a popular spiced fruit salad in Pakistan and India. Seasoned with chaat masala, a spice rub of dried mango powder, cumin, coriander, Himalayan pink salt, black pepper, ginger, cayenne pepper, and asafetida. This popular seasoned salt is something you will find on every street vendors station in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. From using it on burgers, to salads, stews and even eggs, this staple spice is a must have in any South Asian kitchen.
During the holidays the most popular way of using the spice is in a fruit salad. No dinner is complete without having Fruit Chaat on the table. Whether it be a side during dinner or for dessert, here's the recipe for my most favorite way to make Pakistani street style Fruit Chaat.
Serves: 4 to 6

2 Apples
1 Pears
1 Banana
2 Kiwis
4 to 5 Strawberries
¼ cup Blueberries
1 Mango

2 Oranges (Juiced)
Salt/ Pepper to taste
1 tsp Chaat Masala (or more)
1 to 2 tsp Sugar or sweetener of choice (optional)
Method:
-Chop all the fruit into equal sized pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.
-Whisk or shake all the dressing ingredients in a jar and pour over the fruit.
-Give it a nice toss and place in serving dish.
-Chill until ready to serve.
-Garnish with mint and fresh cream if desired.
Note:
-You can use any fruits that are in season.
-Don't have Chaat Masala? Use Tajin Fruit Salt or Trader Joe's Chili Lime Seasoning.
My 2 yr old can never wait...he expects a bowl right away!
This is optional but garnish with some fresh cream, mint, a drizzle of honey and serve!
...Now to just hope leftovers are left for Suhoor (the morning meal!)
